DETAILED TASTING NOTES
As determined by the winemaking team, each of the three pick blocks of Chardonnay grapes were hand-picked and separated based on must flavor, vineyard ripeness and site topography, as well as many other factors were all taken into consideration. The picking took place over October 15th, 16th 17th & 18th 2018. Each pick block was whole cluster pressed separately to optimally express each unique vineyard location. Only the purist free run juice from the four individual press batches was selected and separated to new and used 500 liter French oak barriques as well as a concrete tank to ferment each pick batch separately.
The wine underwent minimal handling with lees stirring every month and went to bottling without fining. The idea was to create four separate parts that were uniquely represented in the whole wine. Alone, the parts showed the different vineyard sections and together the entire vineyard and all its nuances are brought into balance. This new world Chardonnay was French oak barrel fermented and aged as well as concrete fermented and aged which leads to aromas of roasted almonds with nuances of nutmeg, orange blossoms and caramel. 17 months of gross lees contact in barrel lends to the wine a rich oily texture with flavors of orange peel, almonds and ripe stone fruit. This wine combines richness and power with classical elegance. This wine has a classic Okanagan mineral streak on the palate and the stylish oak is well integrated with the rich ripe fruit flavors.
